"Should I keep studying or start working?"

I am very happy. I am finishing the executive master's degree in Chief Digital Officer at MIT Professional Education, the most renowned Technological University in the world. A friend, who I greatly respect and a renowned AI research leader at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, asked me why I had done the program. He does not see value in it because in his opinion, my career, professional growth and my company do not need me to “go back to school” since I have been in this industry for almost 30 years, with a career that has given me growth, success and also learning through some failures.

I DIFFER, for many reasons. First of all, and I have to say it: It's MIT! However, I do not disagree so much because of the specific issue of learning technology and its uses, since in fact that part, for me, is the least valuable in valuing continuing education, but because of other factors that I develop in this blog post.

Learning about technology is, today, almost absolutely democratic and can even be free. We just need desire, time, internet access and a device.

RELEVANCE

Today, the educational landscape is constantly changing thanks to the rapid evolution of emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual and augmented reality, among others, are transforming the way we work, but also how we learn and develop professionally. Adapting to these new technologies is essential to stay relevant in the labor market and to make the most of the opportunities they offer. It is no longer enough to acquire initial training, but it is necessary to embrace continuous learning as a philosophy of life.

PERSONALIZATION

One of the great advantages of emerging technologies is their ability to personalize the learning experience. Online learning platforms, intelligent tutoring systems and learning analysis tools allow the content, pace and style of teaching to be adapted to the individual needs of each student. This not only increases the efficiency of the learning process but also makes it more engaging and motivating. Let's imagine a future where each person has access to a tailored study plan that fits their interests, skills and professional goals. These solutions already exist today.

DEMOCRATIZATION

Emerging technologies play a crucial role in democratizing access to continuing education. Online learning platforms eliminate geographical barriers and allow anyone, anywhere in the world, to access high-quality courses, programs and educational resources. Furthermore, the flexibility offered by these platforms makes it easier to reconcile learning with work and family life. In an increasingly interconnected world, continuing education becomes a key tool for social inclusion and economic development.

INTERCONNECTION AND CAREER

Finally, I commented to my friend, we need to continue generating contact networks. Networking, known as networking, is much more than exchanging business cards. It's about building genuine, mutually beneficial relationships with people we wouldn't necessarily meet on a day-to-day basis. Cultivating a strong network means connecting with colleagues, mentors, industry leaders, and other professionals who can advance your career.

MIT Leadership Class

In an increasingly competitive job market, courses and certifications have become a key factor in highlighting a resume. Beyond traditional academic training, these credentials demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and the acquisition of specific skills relevant to a desired position. I have to be honest, for many years I was not invested in continuing education but rather focused completely on my work and professional growth. If you were to see my CV, you could clearly see a long period of time where I was not involved in academic programs.

As emerging technologies continue to evolve, we can look forward to a future where learning is even more personalized, accessible and flexible. AI will help us identify our strengths and weaknesses, and guide us in choosing the best learning paths. The future of continuing education looks truly incredible and full of possibilities. It is in our hands to make the most of the tools we have at our disposal.

In a few days of graduation. At 50 years old, I still feel as proud as when I graduated in 1998 from Electronic Engineering.

My recommendation is to ALWAYS be involved in some education program, whether related to the career you are pursuing, or a skill you are looking to improve. Learning a new skill immediately brings us value, “enlarges our brain,” and returns value to the world because we naturally begin to share these learnings. Please, NEVER stop studying.
